Horizontal Landscape Maps

Horizontal landscape map prints — city maps and world maps in landscape format. The same cartographic art as the portrait-format collections, formatted horizontally for wide walls, above sofas, above beds, and for spaces where a wider, lower format works better.

Horizontal Landscape Maps

The same cartographic subjects — city street maps, world maps, country outlines — formatted in landscape rather than portrait orientation. Landscape format maps are designed for specific placement situations that portrait maps cannot fill: the wide wall above a sofa, the space above a bed's headboard, a narrow horizontal alcove.

When Landscape Format Maps Work Best

Portrait format is the natural orientation for most art, but certain spaces demand a different approach:

  • Above a sofa — the horizontal run above a three-seater sofa is typically 1.5m to 2m wide and 50–80cm high. A landscape format map fills this space as a single piece rather than requiring a gallery wall of multiple prints.
  • Above a bed — the wall space above a double or king bed suits a wide, lower piece. A landscape city map in this position creates a personal, sophisticated statement.
  • Wide, shallow alcoves — architectural spaces that are wider than they are tall require landscape format art.
  • Long narrow corridors — landscape format maps work well in hallways where wall space is horizontal rather than vertical.

Cities and Maps Available

The horizontal landscape collection covers the same cities and geographic subjects as the portrait collections — London, Paris, New York, Rome, and many more — reformatted for horizontal placement. World maps are particularly effective in wide landscape format.

Sizes and Framing

Horizontal landscape map prints are available in seven sizes from 21x30cm to 100x150cm, framed or unframed. All produced on 230gsm matte art paper with archival inks.

When should I choose a landscape format map over a portrait format?

Choose landscape format maps when the wall space is wider than it is tall — above a sofa, above a bed's headboard, in a wide shallow alcove, or along a long narrow corridor. Portrait format works for most standard wall spaces; landscape format fills the specific situations where standard portrait art leaves too much space or creates an awkward proportion.

What cities are available in landscape format?

The horizontal landscape collection covers the same cities as the portrait collections — London, Paris, New York, Rome, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, and many more. World maps and large geographic subjects work particularly well in landscape format.

What size landscape map works above a sofa?

For a typical three-seater sofa (1.8–2.1m wide), a landscape map in the 100x70cm or 100x50cm range works well — broad enough to feel intentional without overwhelming the sofa. The print should be roughly two-thirds of the sofa's width. Contact us if you need help finding the right size for your specific wall.
