The Traffic Cone Bouquet is a playful floral still life in portrait format, in which an exuberant spray of wildflowers bursts from an unlikely vase: an orange-and-white traffic cone. Painted in a loose, textured style, it turns an everyday roadside object into something unexpectedly romantic.

Look closely and the detail rewards you. Scarlet poppies drift at the edges, sunny yellow daisies and rust-centred blooms sit low in the arrangement, while clusters of pink and violet flowers, deep burgundy pansies, delicate white lace-like blossoms and tiny blue cornflowers fill the middle. Everything floats against a warm, mottled ochre-brown background that lets the colours glow. The mix of the humble and the beautiful gives the piece real wit as well as charm, and makes it a quirky floral still life that rewards a second glance.
