The Laughing Cavalier with Mistletoe print is a witty, festive twist on the classic portrait. A dashing gentleman in a wide-brimmed black hat and magnificent lace collar looks out with a knowing smirk, one arm raised to dangle a sprig of mistletoe tied with a red ribbon above his head. It is portraiture with a cheeky invitation built in. The artwork is an altered version of The Laughing Cavalier by Frans Hals, reimagined by Ink & Drop for Christmas.

The detail is what makes this piece so rewarding to live with. His doublet is richly embroidered with golden flourishes, bows and tiny floral motifs set against deep midnight blue, while the froth of white lace at the collar and cuffs is rendered with remarkable delicacy. A curled moustache, rosy cheeks and a tilted, confident gaze give him real personality, and the soft grey background lets the colour and texture of the costume take centre stage. The red ribbon and green leaves of the mistletoe add a perfectly judged pop of seasonal colour.

This portrait suits anyone who loves a bit of humour with their history. It looks superb in a hallway, dining room, living room or study, and the ornate gold and black frames lean into the grandeur of the costume. As a Christmas portrait wall art piece, it brings seasonal cheer without the clutter of decorations, and it makes a standout festive gift for art lovers: choose a framed version, ready to hang, and have it delivered straight to their door. Fans of a framed vintage portrait print or a characterful cavalier portrait poster will find plenty to enjoy.

When you order a frame from us, it is professionally framed in our workshop and will arrive ready to hang on your wall. The frame itself is a minimal, square black frame, 20mm wide to suit any interior style. There is a visible wood grain as they are made from real wood. This makes them much stronger and resistant to warping like cheaper, MDF frames tend to.
